Know your audience
This is perhaps the most important tip of all – you need to know who you’re talking to before you can communicate with them effectively. You need to know things like age, gender, location, goals, interests, etc. As they’re likely your existing customer base, you should have a good idea of who they are and what they need from you.

Create a calendar
Not only can having a clear posting schedule save you time, it also ensures that you’re consistently posting content when your audience is likely to be engaged. You’ll also be making sure you don’t miss any key dates of important events or campaigns.

Keep it visual
No matter what social platform you’re using, visuals like images, infographics or videos are the most effective way to reach your audience. Most people who are engaging with social media are often doing so on the go and don’t always have the time to read lengthy posts. Keep it simple with some eye-catching imagery and a few choice captions.

Schedule everything
Alongside creating a social media calendar, you should also make the most of scheduling tools. Scheduling your content is a great way to save time, especially when you’re on the go. Setting aside a few hours each week to schedule out posts means you won’t forget to post something important and you’ll ensure your audience have the chance to be engaged.

Get inspired
Do some research into the social media pages of those in your industry – these could be competitors or even larger companies whose work you admire. You’ll easily see what’s working for others and what’s not and you can base your own content on this.

If you’re just getting started with social media marketing, it’s important to remember that learning is the goal. Start small and spend some time each day learning the ins and outs of the platforms and trying new things. If something doesn’t work the first time, try it differently next time. And when you find what does work, you’ll be much better off!
